Then a car pulls into Hannah’s driveway, bringing two police officers…and devastating news that shatters her life forever. In the days that follow, Hannah struggles with unspeakable feelings of sorrow and rage—feelings that fuse into one chilling purpose for living: revenge against Brian Wesley, the drunk driver who has caused all her pain. From the bestselling author of The Wingfeather Saga and award-winning musician and storyteller, Andrew Peterson. Christianity Today, The Gospel Coalition, WORLD Magazine each named Adorning the Dark as one of their books of the year. Making something beautiful in a broken world can be harrowing work, and it can’t be done alone. Over the last twenty years, Andrew Peterson has performed thousands of concerts, published four novels, released ten albums, taught college and seminary classes on writing, founded a nonprofit ministry for Christians in the arts, and executive-produced a film—all in a belief that God calls us to proclaim the gospel and the coming kingdom using whatever gifts are at our disposal. He’s stumbled along the way, made mistake after mistake, and yet has continually encountered the grace of God through an encouraging family, a Christ-centered community of artists in the church, and the power of truth, beauty, and goodness in Scripture and the arts. While there are many books about writing, none deal first-hand with the intersection of songwriting, storytelling, and vocation, along with nuts-and-bolts exploration of the great mystery of creativity. This book is both a memoir of Andrew’s journey and a handbook for artists, written in the hope that his story will provide encouragement to others stumbling along in pursuit of a calling to adorn the dark with the light of Christ. The Bible: The Big Picture is a resource for students, fledgling churches or individuals wanting to have an overview of what the Bible is about. It does not seek to replace individual study of Biblical doctrines or even history but more as an encouragement to do so. In essence the book started off as a chronology of events within the Old Testament but that led to what could be regarded as a timeline related to the ‘people of God’ and how God’s promises were and still are linked to the nation or individual’s responsibilities. There is a précis for each book of the Bible and a one line statement for each chapter within each book together with an Appendix giving details of various related places and journeys. The closing parts of the book deal mainly with the growth of the early Christian church up until the time of Constantine in 325 AD and covers the opposition from without ‘persecution’ and also from within ‘heresy’. The Bible: The Big Picture is not interspersed with references to chapters and verses since the idea was to assume that the reader might well doubt the veracity of the Bible and hence not value proof from within the Bible. Hopefully the result is something that is easy to read and interesting enough to generate further investigation. Click Here for the best price! |
